During these quarantine times, I’ve found solace in watching anime and listening to music. I wanted to do some brief reviews on my top 7 favorite shows because what ELSE is there to do?? HAHA, anime has consumed my life and I’ve fallen victim to crunchy roll.
- Akame Ga Kill!
This anime easily moved up to being one of my favorites. It wasn’t a light anime to watch at all… literally, some of the main characters get massacred. It’s beyond good because you never know when something awful will happen. I also like how it focuses around female characters on the front-line during war. So If you want to watch something that’s gory and will take you through a lot of emotions, I highly recommend. Plus, the fight scenes go dumb stupid crazy.
You can find this show on Netflix.
2. Hunter x Hunter
So, this show holds a very special place in my heart. It helped me get through one of my boughts with depression and I’m still in love with the characters. Not only is it a show that teaches you about love, compassion and perseverance, it also has some good ass fight scenes. I like the whole concept of “nen” they use, it’s similar to chakara. Either way, this show is well-knit. The main characters are woven together so well that they coincide with their antagonists even better. Anyways, I can’t get enough of this show. It gets 5 stars in my book.
You can find this show on Hulu and Netflix.
3. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
This show is on the newer side, but it’s crazy good. They actually used mixed media in the animation style and it worked really well. Some of the scenes are mixed with cgi and regular animation to give it a more realistic feel and I think that’s genius. The first episode of this show gets you locked in so quick because the main character is just some wholesome bro that gets his family– yeah. I would watch it, it’ll raise your standards so high though if it’s your first time watching anime.
You can find this show on Hulu.
4. Michiko to Hatchin
I absolutely love this show. I’m partial to it though because I’m a big fan of the movie “City of God” and this show has that same kind of vibe, especially the music in it. It’s like City of God mixed with Cowboy Bebop! Overall, this is a fun show to watch because it takes you for a ride and makes sure you’re listening. I highly recommend.
You can watch this on Youtube.
5. Black Clover
Okay so I haven’t actually finished watching this show but I just finished season 1 and now I’m invested. At first the main character is hella annoying, but he grows on you like 10 episodes in. This show has a good balance to it because it’s lighthearted, but also characters can just die. One of the worst tropes in anime is that all of the characters can be magically “saved” this one doesn’t do that. Also, the concept of magic is really cool in this one. It’s like Naruto but mixed with Harry Potter lmao
You can watch season 1 on Netflix.
6. Yu Yu Hakusho
This is just a classic. I wish I started out with this when I first began watching anime. The style is good, the characters are great and the fashion is top tier. Its pretty slow, it’s one of those shows that you can binge for an entire day and I kind of love that. If all you care about is fighting though, I suggest just skipping to the Dark Tournament arc. Also also, the opening song slaps so hard hahaha
You can watch this on Hulu.
7. Devilman Crybaby
For this one, I gotta be honest it’s definitely not my first choice in recommendations because of how outta pocket the animation is. It’s also only 10 episodes but it gets the point across. It’s vulgar, raunchy and has some crazy scenes that you’ll never be able to un-see. So if you wanna watch this one, this is your warning lmao I think it’s pretty good though.
You can watch this on Netflix.
Honorable Mentions: Naruto, Dragon Ball Z GT, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champ-loo, One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, Black Butler, Blue Exorcist, The Prince of Tennis
