Skin blacker than a chalkboard.
Written in my skin bares chains,
Ringing out marks from sins of others.
As my skin turns to night,
I recite my prayers before going out.
I cling to hope as I walk my normal pace.
Skin blacker than night,
Changing with the seasons,
Highlighting my red undertones,
Enhancing my beauty,
My black skin.
Radiant as it glows in the sunlight,
Then rinses off into the night—
Basking forever in the moonlight.
